David is a 5 Year Old!

David turned 5 on Wednesday! He got to be leader in his class and brought a dinosaur (t-rex) to school. He also go to pick the snack (pretzels & raisons) and the silly song ("I'm a Nut!"). His teacher gave him this hat. He LOVED the hat. He wore it ALL DAY!
We came home and made train shaped cupcakes and he wore the hat.
We went to Angel Choir Wednesday afternoon and everyone sang "Happy Birthday". (He was still wearing the hat.)
Then we went to "the peanut restaurant" (Texas Roadhouse) at David's request. (The hat does not come off.)
At the end of the night we came home and had cupcakes and he opened a few more gifts (dinosaur books - this is a very themed birthday). I must make a note to get him a hat for next year.

Trick or Treat at the Sports Museum

We went trick or treating at the All Sports Museum on Monday night. The best part for the boys - pretending to be Penn State Football players!

Seeing the Nittany Lion in costume was fun too! The refused to get their pictures taken with the cheerleaders. The would only go up to the Nittany Lion.

They had games for the kids to win prizes set up in the recruiting lounge.

My favorite was "Pin the Tail on the Nittany Lion"!

Soccer Team Picture

Soccer season ended on Sunday for the fall. The focus for the kids 5 and under is fun. The had fun even when they scored in the other teams goal or ran the wrong direction (which happen at just about every game). :-) Lots of cheering them and smiles. I don't know if I'm looking forward to when we start keeping score.

Dinosaur Museum

We let David choose a party with friends or trip for his birthday and he picked to go to the dinosaur museum. We went as a day trip this past weekend to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
David ran in to the museum. He was so excited. We raced through the dinosaurs. He wanted to see all of them right away. They had a great tour and David did a great job paying attention. He was really interested in all the dinosaur facts.
They had a dinosaur exploration room for the kids. David and Ryan wore goggles and used a brush and scalpel.
The boys loved all the animals on the 2nd floor. They had enormous bears.

This was the view of the dinosaur exhibit from the 3rd floor. It was enormous!
One Happy Kid! He never got tired and really listened during the tour. He wanted to know all the dinosaurs names and when they lived.

There were some dinosaurs outside the museum too.

David's main concern about this dinosaur: "Where does the poop come out?" Yep, that's my kid! (There was also a discussion about where the dinosaurs "peeper" might be.)

They were roaring like dinosaurs on top of the tricerotops.

It was such a great trip. I can't wait till Ryan reaches his dinosaur crazed age and we get to go again.

Ryan's First Trip to the Dentist

Ryan had his first dentist appointment last week. He was so excited. David loves the dentist. That really helped to get Ryan excited to go. In the car on the way there they were fighting over who would get to have their teeth cleaned first. I let David go so Ryan could watch. Ryan was great. He let Dr. Hughes clean his teeth and apply the flouride treatment. Then we left with more toys than they could hold, free McDs milkshake coupons and new toothbrushes. Our next stop - McDonalds for the milkshakes! (Not sure that I get the mother of the year award for taking them for milkshakes after the dentist, but he gave them the coupons!)

Soccer with Kelsey and Kaitlyn

Kelsey and Kaitlyn came to watch David's team play soccer on the Sunday after his Birthday sleepover. The girls played with David while we waited for the team to arrive. Kelsey wanted to be goalie.
David is having a lot of fun playing soccer.
Kelsey, Kaitlyn and Ryan wrestled around on the sidelines during the game. They wanted to head to the playground to climb the spider web.

Birthday Celebration & Cousin Sleepover

We celebrated David's 5th Birthday with my family on the 16th. David had a choice between a party with friends or a trip somewhere for his birthday and he surprised us and chose the trip to a "dinosaur museum". The trip came the following weekend.
The girls were so cute in their fall outfits. They gave David and Ryan lots of attention at dinner.

After dinner we opened presents at the house. David was THRILLED when he opened his dinosaurs. He jumped up screaming "Thank you Mommy!" and then gave Shelby a great big hug. He quickly figured out his mistake and ran over to give me a hug! Silly kid.
He wanted to put on his dinosaur jammies as soon as we were done with cake. (Thank you Aunt Shelby!)
The kids asked to go to bed. The set up their sleeping bags at 9:30 and were asleep by 10:30. The really played themselves out. Kelsey and Kaitlyn both wanted to sleep beside David.

Harner Farm Tour

Everyone loves the Harner Farm tour! We do it every year with our mom group. The kids ride the wagon to the pumpkin patch and pick a pumpkin and then we walk to the apple trees and pick an apple. It all ends with a trip through the corn maze. (I apologize for the ridiculous number of pictures. . . Ryan's reaction to the maze had me near tears laughing. Poor kid has a mean mommy.)
Ryan LOVED the apples. I'm glad he got some joy out of this trip. He ate two!

Both boys were excited at the start of the maze. David thought the alien was very cool.
Then we headed toward the "Bath of Blood" (David's absolute favorite part! He was talking about finding it in the maze all week.)
Here it is - The Bath of Blood! There was scary music playing and the skeleton on the porch moved. Oooooooo, very scary.
David loved it! Ryan, . . .not so much. "Mommy, I want to go home!"
Then we found the "Hanging Tree", more scary music.
Again, Ryan,. . . not so happy.
Finally we found the treasure and everyone got a spider ring. . . I thought Ryan might be happy. . .
Nope, . . "Mommy, GO HOME NOW!" So we did. :-)

Penn State Homecoming

Paul and I went to the Homecoming game with some friends from Videon. The best part of the game was the Blue Band and having the Nittany Lion come to our section for a visit. The actual football part was a little difficult to watch.
We got to stop over and see my parents in their seats after the game and check out the alumni band perform with the blue band.
Friday night we stayed out late and watched the Homecoming parade. I'm not sure what David enjoyed more, watching the parade or jumping.
