First Triathlon

David was so excited to compete in the Centre Region Parks Triathlon.  He skipped over to the pool to get started on the race.  He had no nerves, just excitement.  He was focused on winning, but not nervous.  He's a very competitive kid.

He jumped out of the pool and saw that some kids had already started out on their bikes.  I could tell he was feeling anxious about getting going on his bike.  He was super fast at getting his helmet and sneakers on and then took off up the hill.

As he got to the finish line of the bike portion of the race he was catching up to some kids and was in a hurry.   He didn't let his bike come to a stop before jumping off.  He crashed hard into the asphalt.  He rolled over it into the grass and scraped his shoulder and bruised his wrist pretty good.  He was done.  He was sobbing and in pain.  He tried to start running, but he couldn't catch his breath.  He was so upset.  We had to wait a while, but by the time we arrived at the Waffle Shop for lunch an hour later he was able to find a positive side of his finish.  He said the worst part was not being able to finish the race and at least he took a fall in a race that didn't give out trophies!  :-)  He promises he will be happy to just finish the race next year.

Next up for the Triathalon - 6 Year olds!  Ryan was ready to go!  Ryan is all about having fun.  He loved competing in the race with his friend Luke.
Ryan did great in the pool.  He has a great breast stroke.  He was able to fly through the two laps.

Ryan got some support from David while Paul helped him get his shoes on and start out on the bike portion of the race.  During the bike race Ryan ran into the turnaround sign and fell off his bike.  His friend Luke got off his bike and helped Ryan up and back into the race.  Such good buddies!!  Love these two!
Ryan made sure his bike came to a stop before jumping off and starting his run.  He didn't even take off his helmet.  He was in a hurry!!!
Ryan and Luke raced through the ran like champions!  They did awesome!
Ryan was exhausted by the end of the race!  He was so happy to finish and wanted to jump back on his bike to ride back to the pool.  Such a great experience for both of them, even with the fall.  They learned a lot.
