Monday Night Football

This Spring we let David try out Football through the Monday Night Football program at the State College Assembly of God Church.  The program is for boys ages 6 -13.  They started each night out with a skills lesson, then had a discussion related to a biblical principle and then played flag football.

They had six teams of 6-7 year olds.  After the first session David said he LOVED it.  It showed too.  He had no fear of getting pushed around.  He was very aggressive.  We have no worries about his confidence level for sports.

Here's David taunting the other team.  Yeah, that's my kid!  :-)
They do really cute little huddles and they all put their arms around each other.  It was super cute.

The take several water/gatorade breaks during the session.  At each one I remind David that I have his thermos, but he pretends not to know me and walks over to the gatorade cooler with the other boys.  Mom's thermos is just not cool.
Here's my David making a touchdown.  He was so excited after he got to do it.  I think he had trouble sleeping that night.  This fall David will have to decide between signing up for flag football or soccer.  He's already said it will be a tough decision.  He has loved this program.

We Love Wegmans!

My Mothers and More group organized a cooking & growing event at Wegmans.  The boys learned how to make salsa with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions & cilantro.  Then they learned how to grow all of the ingredients from seed.  This was so well organized and fun!  Just another reason to love going to Wegmans!
Ryan loves playing with his kitchen food at home.  He loved this event.  He keeps asking me when we can go back and do another one.  He saved his hat and David's hate and wore them for about a week.  They're still in his room and he won't let me throw them away.
Our seeds did okay. . . and then they kind of died or disappeared.  We have planted tomatoes, cilantro and cucumbers in our garden.  Maybe the boys will want to make salsa this summer with our harvest.

Biscuit Spends the Night

Biscuit, the Kindergarten mascot, spends one night with each child.  David brought Biscuit home on Monday night with instructions to journal what we did with Biscuit.  David's first idea was to build a dog house for Biscuit to sleep in our of Legos.  This project took a lot of time and David was very pleased with Biscuits house and snack bowl.
While David was busy building Biscuit's house Ryan took Biscuit upstairs for a birthday party.  Ryan loves birthday parties and immediately thought that we should have one for Biscuit.  (We kept Biscuit on a leash so he wouldn't escape.)
David journaled about the Birthday party too.  Biscuit was joined by Ryan's stuffed animals for a great birthday party.  We sang the birthday song and Biscuit blew out his candles (he's 3).

Blue White Game

Blue White weekend was iffy with overcast skies and the threat of a thunderstorm this year.  We all risked the rain and went to the game.  We stopped at the Paterno statue to give Joe a hug before the game.

We had plenty of room to spread out (and run) in the stands.  David started out rooting for the Defense and then changed to the Offense when they started winning.  He said it didn't really matter which team he rooted for since they were both Penn State.

I don't know if it's a normal thing or something new this year (I can't remember the last time we stayed until the end of a Blue White game.), but we were all allowed on the field after the game.
Lots of pictures and tackling on the field.

Can you find poor Aunt Shelby?
 Let's go State!
Hugs for the Nittany Lion and Ryan ringing the bell.  Penn State won the game.  Great day!

Easter Magic - Lollipop Harvest

On Saturday night we "planted" jelly beans in the backyard.  We heard a rumor jellybeans grow into lollipops if you plant them the night before Easter.  The boys were very excited to see what would happy.

We woke up on Eater morning and found Lollipops where we planted our jellybeans!
Love the magic of Easter!

Happy Easter 2012

Two happy boys on Easter morning.  Lots of candy and presents!
David was excited to get a white chocolate bunny.  Ryan was happy to find peanut butter cups in his basket.   The boys also found Super Mario games and t-shirts in their baskets.

The Bunny left some eggs in the backyard.  The bunny had to wake up very early (6 a.m.) to get the eggs delivered.  The boys were up at 4 a.m. and told to go back to sleep and then again at 7 a.m. to start the day!  Very early Happy Easter!

After church the boys worked on their new Easter legos.  They LOVED the little peep hatching out of the egg and the baby bunny.

Happy Easter!

Underwater Egg Hunt

After the community egg hunt we went over to the YMCA for the underwater egg hunt.

David was with the 5-6 year olds.  He wasn't interested in the floating eggs.  He dove for the eggs that had rocks in them.

This was the first year Ryan didn't need any help for Paul.  Paul asked Ryan if he wanted help and Ryan said "NO!".  He was really working hard to fill his basket.

Community Egg Hunt

We had beautiful weather for the community egg hunt this year.  7000 eggs!  David was in the 6-7 year old group and Ryan is in the 3-5 yr old group.  We had to separate for the hunt.  The start signal goes off at 2:00 p.m. and the eggs are gone by 2:02 p.m.  It's a fast hunt!
Ryan has been wearing the bunny ears he got from Kelsey's birthday party all week.  He looks so cute.
I lost Ryan for the two minutes of the hunt.  He took off running!  It was total chaos.
After the hunt the boys shared their candy and toys and then turned their eggs back in so we can do it again next year.
